State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and the entire SAO team join together to recognize July 30th as World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This day was adopted by United Nations member states to raise awareness about human trafficking and to promote and protect the rights of human trafficking victims.
Every day, in every country in the world, human traffickers exploit individuals for profit. Over 70% of trafficking victims are women and girls, while nearly one third are children. COVID-19 has amplified the dangers of trafficking. Loss of jobs, growing poverty, school closures and a rise in online interactions have increased vulnerabilities and opened up opportunities for organized crime groups. – Executive Director, UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Ghada Waly.
