My Office is committed to giving children meaningful alternatives to becoming part of the criminal justice system as delinquents. We wish to keep children out of the juvenile justice system by illustrating the realities of crime and its consequences. Crime affects not only the communities within our county, but also the families of the children that come into contact with it. The S.T.A.R.T ( Stop, Think, Ask, React, Tell) Program gives children tools to use during their decision making process. This mission seeks to clarify any possible misconceptions of the juvenile justice system in hopes of dispelling untruths. Our program will provide an honest view inside the juvenile justice system.
On May 24th, 2010, the S.T.A.R.T Program is kicking-off at Brownsville Middle School. The S.T.A.R.T Program is designed to empower school aged children by educating them on alternatives, from a Prosecutorial viewpoint, to violence and crime. By providing a 5 step processing strategy our hope is these children will find productive ways to deal with crisis situations.
