STATE ATTORNEY KATHERINE FERNANDEZ RUNDLE ENCOURAGES DRIVERS TO ‘TIE ONE FOR SAFETY’

Miami (November 12, 2020) – Did you know that some of the most dangerous days of the years on our nation’s roadways are between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day?

Last year almost 1,200 people were killed in drunk driving crashes during this time. That accounts for 29 percent of all traffic fatalities.

Unfortunately, in the Office of State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, we meet with many families who have lost love ones due to drunk or impaired driving. It is heartbreaking.

It’s not only the victim and their family that suffer consequences. If you are convicted of DUI manslaughter, you will face a mandatory minimum prison sentence of four years, up to 15 years. Plus, you will have your license revoked for life!

And, if you flee the scene of the crash, the penalty increases up to 30 years in prison.

Don’t let one bad decision ruin your future and take the life of an innocent person.

From November 1 through December 31, 2020, MADD asks you to display a red ribbon in a visible location to remind everyone always to designate a non-drinking driver.
