Miami – August 23, 2019

“After an exhaustive three-month trial, a Miami-Dade County jury rendered its verdict today against Terrorist Boyz gang member, Benson Cadet.

The jury found Cadet guilty on one count of RICO Conspiracy, but acquitted him on one murder count and one attempted murder count and could not decide on three (3) other premeditated murder counts and twelve (12) attempted premeditated murder counts. We will continue to prosecute Benson Cadet upon retrial of this case because we believe the evidence speaks to his direct involvement in these vicious street crimes in the cities of North Miami and North Miami Beach.

We are grateful to each of the jurors for the time, dedication and attention they applied to their evaluation of this case. We also thank Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Dava Tunis for her extreme professionalism and the courtesy she always provides to jurors and all courtroom personnel.

I am very proud of my trial team led by Senior Trial Counsel Joshua Weintraub, Division Chief Katheline Cortes, Legal Unit Chief Christine Zahralban and Assistant State Attorney Joel Rosenblatt for their assistance. I also want to recognize State Attorney Investigators Jodi Shuster and Jim McColman who were part of the original Homicide Team in 2003 that made this prosecution possible. In addition, I also want to recognize our amazing support staff without whom these types of large criminal prosecutions would be impossible.

I truly appreciate their service and dedication to our community. They are members of the “Best Team in America.”
