Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle has been selected by the Dade County Bar Association’s Government Committee to receive their Women of Distinction Government Award.
The Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) has long recognized women in the legal profession for their achievements with their Women of Distinction awards in numerous categories. These are women who are leaders in the South Florida government legal community.
The DCBA is the largest voluntary bar association in Florida whose mission is to be the voice of Miami-Dade County’s legal profession. It was founded in the early 1900’s and officially incorporated in 1920. The DCBA’s goal is to support and inform the county’s lawyers as well as the public and the community at large. They advocate for efforts to preserve the separation of powers of legislative bodies and our judicial system, and their programs help citizens of Miami-Dade County find qualified lawyers, receive free legal assistance, and learn about their legal rights and responsibilities.
“The Dade County Bar Association’s Women of Distinction Award is a comment about how far we have been able to help our criminal justice system progress by our efforts to make Miami-Dade County a better place to live, work and raise our families. Our local successes such as creating Florida’s first felony domestic violence unit, creating Drug Court, Mental Health Court and Veterans Court to help reintegrate offenders back into our community, and our success in creating the Juvenile Assessment Center and Civil Citation Program to help impact juvenile crime, are now among the many criminal justice models being imitated around the country. I am proud to accept this award as a way of honoring these achievements and our hard work to make them a functioning reality.”
State Attorney Fernandez Rundle will be presented with the Women of Distinction Government Award during an evening awards ceremony and gala on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant on Key Biscayne.
