Volunteer Internship Positions
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office for Miami-Dade County does not have paid internship positions. However, we do have volunteer positions for college and law students. Students may also intern for school credit or receive grant awards. However, we do not match work study grants.
These positions would involve working as a clerk for an Assistant State Attorney on a part-time (minimum 20 hours) or full-time basis for a minimum of 10 weeks. Duties will vary depending on the student’s grade level, and may include legal research and writing and assisting in all aspects of case preparation. All interns will also be able to observe depositions and pre-file conferences, attend court on a regular basis to observe pre-trial hearings and trials and will become familiar with the workings of the criminal justice system.
Students who have completed their second year of law school and qualify for the CLINCIAL PROGRAM will be certified to speak in court and will be able to handle misdemeanor or felony cases under the supervision of an attorney.
Law students should request an application from Gunnar Stewart, Recruitment Coordinator at 305-547-0561. To apply for a clinical placement, contact your Clinical Director.
Undergraduate College students who want to apply for a volunteer position, should request an application from Jody Acosta in the Human Resources Department at (305) 547-0540.
All applicants are subject to a criminal background check and clearance prior to acceptance.
